The Lawrence school district has named Meg Clark as the next principal of Woodlawn Elementary School and Phillip Mitchell as the next principal of Liberty Memorial Central Middle School.
Clark received her Bachelor of Science in elementary education degree from Fort Hays State and her Master of Science in educational administration from Emporia State University, according to a Monday news release from the district.
She has been serving as an assistant principal in Topeka Public Schools for the last two years. She has nine years of elementary teaching experience, including teaching fourth grade at Quail Run Elementary and working as a curriculum and instruction coach at Broken Arrow, according to the release.
“I cannot wait to get to know our students, staff, and families and begin building strong partnerships together,” Clark said in the release. “I look forward to supporting a school culture where every student feels connected, encouraged, and empowered to succeed.”
Mitchell earned a Bachelor of Science in education, Master of Arts in curriculum and instruction, and an education leadership license from the University of Kansas, according to a second district news release Monday. He taught social studies at Free State High School for 10 years prior to joining LMCMS as assistant principal/athletic director in August 2023.
“I have loved my time here at Central and am honored and excited to continue my service at LMCMS in an expanded leadership role,” Mitchell said in the release. “I look forward to strengthening partnerships with staff and families to keep growing our students’ abilities and opportunities.”
The school board approved Woodlawn Principal Brandon Daley’s resignation in January and LMCMS Principal Jennifer Schmitt’s in March, both effective June 30.
Clark and Mitchell’s positions will be effective July 1, according to the personnel report in the school board’s Monday meeting agenda.
