The person whose body was found in the Kansas River last week was Melinda Sue McCluskey, 57, who was last known to have lived in rural Edgerton, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

At 1:13 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, a person reported seeing what could have been a body in the water about 300 yards east of the Bowersock Dam. DGSO’s underwater search and recovery team and investigators found a body in the shallow water in that area.

“Detectives worked with the coroner’s office to confirm a positive identification and notified McCluskey’s family members on Friday,” according to a news release from DGSO.

“Family members had reported her missing to law enforcement in Douglas County on Dec. 3,” the release continued.

There was no indication of foul play, according to the release. Results of the coroner’s report were still pending Friday.
