Lawrence Public Schools will be in session Wednesday, but there will be no morning bus service.

“First Student informs the district that buses continued to experience fuel gelling issues due to the extreme temperatures,” district spokesperson Julie Boyle said in an email. “Some buses will not start. Others cannot be relied upon to complete routes.”

The district expects afternoon buses to run as scheduled, Boyle said.

Wednesday’s high is expected to hit 30°, according to the National Weather Service forecast as of Tuesday night. Wind chill values will still be between -4° to 6°, and the temperature is expected to drop again Thursday through Saturday.

“If the lack of morning transportation prevents your child from attending school, please notify your school. Their absence will be excused,” Boyle said in an email to school families. “We apologize for the lack of transportation service and wish we could have provided you more notice of this change.”

The district has had three snow days this month.
