Folks can hear a talk and watch a demonstration of ribbonwork from woodland Native American communities at an upcoming Watkins Museum of History event.

The event will be led by Jancita Warrington, who is of Menominee, Potawatomi and Ho-Chunk descent. She is the executive director of the Kansas Native American Affairs office.

“As a member of the Menominee and Potawatomi tribal nations, Jancita’s presentation shares the rich cultural tradition of woodland ribbonwork,” the event page reads. “As Indigenous people were forced from their homelands near the Great Lakes to Kansas, these traditions made their way to the prairie.”

Warrington will also display her own ribbonwork and demonstrate a dance for the women of the Anishinaabe Nations.

The event will go from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27 at the Watkins, 1047 Massachusetts St. It is free to attend and open to the public.
