The health department is inviting the Douglas County community to continue an April conversation focused on racial disparities in local birth outcomes.
In April, Black mothers shared their testimonies and researchers with Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health presented data demonstrating the discrepancies across infant mortality, birth weight and more for Black families.
The next conversation building on that event will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 in the Flory Meeting Hall at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St. People don’t need to have attended the April talk to join this one.
The upcoming event will focus on three themes that arose from the April conversation, including policies to support healthy pregnancies and families; compiling data for decision-making; and how to increase access to person-centered care for all.
LDCPH asks that attendees RSVP at this link, but it is not required.
