The NAACP and League of Women Voters of Lawrence-Douglas County on Saturday will host forums for candidates running for key offices in Douglas County.

The forums, to be held at the Watkins Museum of History, 1047 Massachusetts St., will focus solely on the candidates who are facing challengers in the Tuesday, Aug. 6 primary election.

That includes the three Democrats running for Douglas County district attorney, as well as some candidates running for each of the four Douglas County Commission districts on the ballot.

The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29 with a forum for the DA candidates — incumbent Suzanne Valdez and challengers Tonda Hill and Dakota Loomis. The winner of that primary will advance to the Nov. 5 general election, facing Republican Mike Warner.

The Douglas County Commission candidate forum will follow from 3 to 4 p.m.

There will be informal visiting with the candidates between the two forums, from 2:30 to 3 p.m., and after, from 4 to 4:30 p.m.
