A free six-week online program aims to provide Douglas County families and caregivers with tools to care for their children ages 0 to 5.

The Community Children’s Center’s Family Resource Center is hosting the classes all about responsive caregiving.

Previously, the CCC has held the program in person. This time around, it’s offering a virtual platform to allow “caregivers from a wider geographic area to join without the need to arrange additional childcare or travel,” according to a news release.

Suzy Green, Family Resource Center director, and Chelsea Harrington, the center’s coordinator, facilitate the interactive classes. Topics will cover early brain development, connections between the brain and body, and strategies for attunement, the release says.

“Responsive caregiving is about understanding your child’s needs and building a strong connection,” Green said in the release. “This program offers practical insights that families can apply right away, and it’s all delivered in an accessible, engaging format.”

Participants will also gather resources and be able to engage with fellow caregivers for support.

“We’re thrilled to bring this resource to families at no cost,” Harrington said in the release. “Whether you’re a first-time parent or looking for new strategies, this program is a wonderful opportunity to learn and grow.”

Classes are scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, from Jan. 30 to March 6. They’re held virtually via Zoom. Registration is free.
