Community members can kick off spring break with a downtown celebration as the Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade is set to return Monday.

The 38th annual parade will start at 1 p.m. Monday, March 17 at South Park and head north from 11th and Massachusetts streets.

It will head across the Kansas River bridge into North Lawrence, heading east on Locust Street and ending at the Flamingo Club, 501 N. Ninth St.

As of Friday morning, the forecast for Monday showed a high of 77° with sunny skies expected, according to the National Weather Service in Topeka. It may be a bit breezy, though, with winds of 10 to 15 mph and gusts as high as 25 mph.

The parade and its associated events throughout the year have raised nearly $1.5 million for local charitable organizations. This year’s beneficiaries are 100 Good Women, Ecumenical Campus Ministries and Theatre Lawrence.

This year’s queen is Keri Davenport Rodriquez.
