Douglas County is inviting the community to its next Discovery Day in celebration of National County Government Month.
The event is set for 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21 in the Open Pavilion of the Douglas County Fairgrounds at 21st and Harper streets.
It will include touch-a-truck activities with vehicles from the department of public works and maintenance, the sheriff’s office, emergency communications and area fire departments. There will also be interactive games for all ages and info and resources from community partners.
“The family-friendly event will highlight Douglas County’s services, programs and the employees who deliver them,” according to a news release from the county. “County departments support the community by maintaining roads, parks and bridges; providing public safety and court services; keeping land records; preserving local history; conducting elections, advancing sustainability; and supporting behavioral health and human services.”
Barbwire Barbecue, JB’s Tacos and Pretzelly food trucks will be onsite.
“Discovery Day is a chance for residents to meet the people behind county services and see how we work every day to support our community,” County Administrator Sarah Plinsky said in the release. “We’re looking forward to connecting with our neighbors in a fun and meaningful way.”
