KU Master of Architecture students of Studio 804 will soon welcome the public to an open house for their latest project, a sustainable home in the Brook Creek neighborhood.
The home, which 19 students designed to meet LEED Platinum certification, “reflects Studio 804’s emphasis on high-performance design and material innovation,” according to a news release from KU.
“Key features include a ventilated zinc rainscreen, polished concrete floors and glue-laminated timber portal frames, along with the adaptive reuse of salvaged structural wood from a mid-century building,” the release continued.
The open house is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at the home, 1144 E. 12th St.
“Visitors are asked to be courteous of neighbors. Avoid parking on grass or on both sides of the street; additional parking is available at Brook Creek Park,” according to the release.
Community members are also invited to an open house Friday for Kaw House, a newly completed supportive housing project designed and built by architecture students and faculty. Read more about that in this article.
