Johnson County Transit has suspended the K-10 Connector bus service for the summer, and Lawrence Transit is expanding service with new “Score Lawrence” routes for World Cup match days.
The K-10 Connector route, which links Lawrence to Johnson County Community College and KU’s Edwards Campus in Overland Park, is scheduled to resume operations on Aug. 24, in time for the fall semester.
The route typically runs reduced summer service because fewer students are in classes, but this is the first year it will not operate at all.
Andy Hyland, a Johnson County spokesperson, said via email that the decision was due to ongoing budget constraints while the county works to determine how many transportation options they are able to provide with the resources they do have.

Hyland said the route operates farther outside Johnson County than any other in the transit system, with most of it serving Lawrence.

“After the City of Lawrence ended its $155,000 annual contribution to the route, and with ridership dropping by approximately 67 percent during the summer months, Johnson County Transit is temporarily pausing service through the summer,” Hyland said.
Lawrence ended its annual contribution to the route about two years ago, according to Cori Wallace, a city spokesperson. Wallace said continuing the partnership would have required reducing service elsewhere in Lawrence.
Johnson County Transit said riders should look to other travel options during the suspension including RideKC Vanpool and MARC’s Way To Go commuter resources and private rideshare services like Uber and Lyft.
Lawrence Transit expanding service for match days
Lawrence Transit is expanding service for summer World Cup festivities. In partnership with eXplore Lawrence, the city is running the “Score Lawrence” route on Kansas City match days.
World Cup matches begin Thursday, June 11, and the final match is set for Sunday, July 19. Six matches are slated for Kansas City between Tuesday, June 16 and Saturday, July 11.
On match days, service between the downtown station at Seventh and Vermont streets, and Central Station, 2315 Bob Billings Parkway, will run from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. There will be no lobby access at Central Station during the extended hours.
The Score Lawrence route will operate on these dates:
• Tuesday, June 16
• Saturday, June 20
• Thursday, June 25
• Saturday, June 27
• Friday, July 3
• Saturday, July 11
KU will offer fan shuttle parking with bus service to Central Station from June 11 to July 13. Riders park in Lot 300, Sections A-D, and in Lot 302, which are near the Lied Center and KU Innovation Park, respectively, and take a shuttle every 15 minutes to Central Station from 9:45 a.m. to 1 a.m. The service is subject to change based on demand. A $10 parking fee is payable via the HONK app.
Once riders arrive at Central Station, they can take the ConnectKC26 route to get to Kansas City. Riders will need an active ConnectKC26 Pass, which costs $5 for one day, $25 for seven days and $50 for a full tournament pass with unlimited rides.
Parking during the summer
Downtown parking rates and procedures remain the same. Riders can download the Lawrence KS EZ Park app to pay for parking or use the available metered parking.
From June 8 through June 30, downtown visitors can receive $2 off parking when they pay through one of the city’s mobile payment apps and enter promo code SCORELAWRENCE26.
KU will have an overnight parking restriction in all areas during the summer. KU permits will be required for green zones.
