The Douglas County Rural Preservation Association will host a forum for voters to meet the candidates running for county commission in the August and November elections.
DCRPA describes itself as a group of county residents “dedicated to bringing public awareness, factual information, and a united outlook to residents of Douglas County regarding specific issues that we face together as a collective.” The group supports the use of solar and wind generation by individual landowners and businesses but is against industrial-scale solar and wind projects.
The forum is set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 28 in Building 21 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St. in Lawrence. The event is free to attend and open to the public.
Invited candidates include incumbent Patrick Kelly and challenger Milton Scott, who are running as Democrats for District 1; incumbent Gene Dorsey and Ethan Spurling, running as Democrats in the District 4 primary; and incumbent Erica Anderson, a Democrat, and Kirsten Kuhn, a Libertarian, in the District 5 race.
No other candidates filed in District 1 and 4, so those races are expected to be decided in the Aug. 4 primary election. Read more about the candidate filings in this article.
The deadline to register to vote or update voter information in Douglas County is July 14. Douglas County voters can update their info online at KSVotes.org. Advance voting begins July 15.
