The Vinland Fair will kick off this week for three days of old-fashioned fun with homemade pie, tractor pulls, a pet parade and more.
Events will run Thursday, Aug. 6 through Saturday, Aug. 8 at 1736 North 700 Road in Baldwin City. Admission to the fair is free.
Fair food
The fair is known for its homemade desserts, including ice cream and pies. A daily menu of food available can be found at this link.
The homemade ice cream freezing begins on-site at 5 p.m. Saturday, with ice cream contest judging beginning at 7 p.m. Ice cream will be served at 7:30 p.m. and can be purchased for $1 for two scoops.
Homemade pies, which are considered a highlight of the fair, can be purchased by the slice or whole. Volunteers can bring pies the morning of the fair but they cannot have cream-based fillings.

Daily events
Here’s a rundown of each day’s events, according to the fair schedule.
Thursday, Aug. 6
Festivities begin at noon on Thursday. Scarecrow building and the antique quilt and apron show will run all day. The old-time and modern farm skills competition is at 2 p.m.

The talent show will start at 6 p.m., and entries are limited to five minutes each. Entries must be submitted by 2 p.m. prior to the show.
The poultry show begins at 6:30 p.m. with entries due by 6 p.m. The rabbit show will follow at 7 p.m., with entries due at 6:30 p.m.
The Baldwin High School band will perform at 7 p.m. next to the main stage, followed by live music by the Alferd Packer Memorial String Band at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 7
Children and adults of all ages can compete in stock bicycle races starting at 10 a.m. Foot and sack races, plus tug-of-war for kids, will immediately follow.
The antique tractor pull begins at 4 p.m. with off-farm tractors followed by antique tractors. Live music by BoDells will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 8
The box turtle race and pet parade begin at 11 a.m. Registration for both events is at 10 a.m. Official livestock judging begins at 1 p.m.
The pedal tractor pull begins at 2:30 p.m. with weigh-in at 2 p.m. The lawn tractor begins at 5 p.m. Live music from Double Take will follow at 7:30 p.m.
