Douglas County residents can register for a weekend of free emergency preparedness training on topics from fire safety and medical operations to search and rescue and terrorism.
Douglas County Emergency Management offers the training for folks who wish to join the Community Emergency Response Team as well as people who are just interested in learning more to help themselves, their families and communities before, during and after a disaster, according to a county news release.
The next course is set for 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9; 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10; and 12:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Emergency management staff will follow up with full information about the class for those who register.

“At the conclusion of the training, individuals may register to become a CERT volunteer,” according to the release. “Authorized CERT volunteers provide support to first responders and other agencies during a disaster and at community events as directed by Emergency Management.”
