The Kansas Department of Transportation has awarded a $104.7 million bid for work to begin next month on Kansas Highway 10 north of Sixth Street/U.S. Highway 40.
This phase of the project will expand the section of highway from that interchange north to North 1800 Road/Farmer’s Turnpike to four lanes.
The project will also include reconstructing the existing interchange with Interstate 70, according to a news release from KDOT.
“The public may notice minimal construction work in the initial project phase,” according to KDOT. “Greater impacts are expected to begin in early 2027.”

KDOT selected Bettis Asphalt & Construction Inc., of Topeka, for the project, according to the release.
Both the north phase of the project and the south phase, which started in 2024, are expected to be complete by the end of 2028, conditions permitting, according to the release.
“The (South Lawrence Trafficway) West Leg expansion project is designed to improve mobility and safety along the 9-mile corridor of K-10 in Lawrence,” according to KDOT.
