The Democrat and Libertarian candidates challenging U.S. Rep. Tracey Mann in the race for the Kansas District 1 seat will soon participate in a forum at the Lawrence Public Library.

The forum, hosted by Women for Kansas Lawrence/Douglas County chapter, is set for 2:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 in the library auditorium, 707 Vermont St.

Lauren Reinhold, a Lawrence attorney and Democratic candidate for the seat, and Steve Jacob, a retired City of Lawrence employee and the Libertarian candidate, plan to be in attendance at the forum.

Mann, the Republican incumbent, “has given a late response that he has another engagement scheduled,” according to the event organizers.

Tai S. Edwards will ask prepared questions of the candidates.

“If not present, the candidate’s position will be noted from their record or campaign platform,” according to organizers.

The event will be recorded but not livestreamed.

Following gerrymandering in 2022, Kansas’ Big 1st district includes Lawrence along with much of the western two-thirds of the state. The rest of Douglas County is in District 2, where incumbent Rep. Derek Schmidt will face Democrat Don Coover and Libertarian John Hauer in the Nov. 3 general election.
