A social sports and entertainment venue and an energy drink drive-thru restaurant will be the newest additions to The Crossing at KU.
The Crossing is a mixed-use development for retail, dining and residential buildings on KU’s west campus near the research and office facilities at KU Innovation Park.
The development is already home to an Olive Garden, Dillons Grocery Store and Truity Credit Union. Plus, construction is underway for a CAVA, Playa Bowls and Jersey Mike’s Subs.
Now, the newest additions will include an MMTH Fieldhouse and Hyper.

MMTH Fieldhouse combines “multiple high-energy sports activities with a premium restaurant and bar,” according to its website. Renderings online show designs with sports bars, a restaurant, pickleball courts, driving ranges and other sports facilities.

Jason Farrant, the president of MMTH Fieldhouse, said the Lawrence location is planned to include a golf putting option, baseball and basketball simulators and pickleball.
Final details for what the business will offer are still being finalized, he said.
“We wanted to give people a variety of things to do rather than just being, you know, a one-dimensional venue,” Farrant said.
There are two other MMTH Fieldhouses about to open, Farrant said, in Oklahoma City and Marion, Illinois.
Plus, there is a slightly different version, called a MMTH Clubhouse, in Wichita, that focuses solely on golf. It opened earlier this fall.
Farrant is a graduate of KU, and he said he was excited to bring the new sports entertainment venture to a place where he has history.
“There’s certainly a great deal of pride about being able to do something, you know, with and through the university,” Farrant said. “So, yeah, it definitely means a little bit more being close to home.”
Plus, KU Athletics already has a partnership with MMTH, which installed turf at Hoglund Ballpark and the updated David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.

MMTH is based in Meriden, Kansas and specializes in sports construction, turf design and architecture.
Farrant said the target opening for the venue is in 2028.
Also coming to The Crossing development is Hyper, a drive-thru drink store that specializes in energy drinks. Hyper also serves snacks, such as muffins and cake pops, and coffee.
It has multiple locations in Johnson County.
As the new businesses are part of a community improvement district, there will be an additional 1.5% sales tax for everything purchased there for about two decades.
Last month, the Lawrence City Commission approved sales tax breaks for a market-rate apartment complex at the Crossing, which would add 341 residential units.
