Free State High School students celebrated their historic performing arts award during halftime of the Firebirds’ football game Friday night.
The school won the annual Performing Arts School of Excellence Award for the second time, marking a first in the KSHSAA award’s history. FSHS initially received the award in 2019 and is the first high school to win twice.
The achievement was announced last month. Students, including some recent graduates, were invited onto the field for a big group photo Friday night as KSHSAA officials handed a plaque to school administrators.
The Firebirds won their game against the defending Class 6A state champion Gardner Edgerton Trailblazers, 35-34. Read more about the game at lawrencesports.com.
