A presentation this week will “demystify the process of resettlement of refugees and asylees, and clarify many common misunderstandings,” according to a news release.
Melissa Lukes, Refugee Community Sponsorship Program Developer of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, will also outline the challenges of resettling for refugees and asylees in the United States, plus information on current Afghan resettlement in Kansas, according to the release.
In addition, “Catholic Charities’ program of Refugee Community Sponsorship, with three levels of commitment, will be outlined, along with additional opportunities for individuals and groups to participate.”
The 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18 informational meeting, “How Groups and Individuals Can Assist Afghan Asylum Seekers,” is free, but registration is required to attend in person at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St. Register to attend, or find the event livestream, at this link.
