Move-in days for KU, Haskell students ahead; here’s how to get here amid construction (and spots Lawrence locals might want to avoid)

Share this post or save for later

Welcome, new and returning University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University students!

🚧 Those heading to campus from out of town should be aware that Kansas Highway 10 coming into Lawrence from the east is under heavy construction, and a long stretch of East 23rd Street is down to one lane, right up to Barker Avenue, the road leading into Haskell’s campus from 23rd Street. 🚧

Interstate 70 might be a less aggravating choice:

If you’re heading to Haskell, taking the I-70 exit into North Lawrence and going straight south on Massachusetts Street all the way south past 23rd Street (watch for the speed bumps after the intersection) and heading into campus from the west might be your best bet.

If your destination is KU, taking the exit at McDonald Drive and heading south on Iowa Street could save you a lot of time — unless you’re going to the scholarship halls or GSP and Corbin, in which case the North Lawrence exit might be best for you, too.

Here’s a map to the general campus vicinities that we hope will save someone a headache or two:

KU move-in: Thursday and Friday, Aug. 18 and 19

Jayhawks, welcome! (And Lawrence locals — here are areas to avoid until everybody’s settled.)

Traffic around Daisy Hill is expected to be heaviest from about 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and the following intersections are expected to be especially busy, according to KU:

• Clinton Parkway (23rd Street) and Crestline Drive: Students moving into Daisy Hill halls use this entrance before driving north on Constant Avenue to Irving Hill Road.
• Bob Billings Parkway (15th Street) and Crestline Drive: Cars exiting Daisy Hill will use this intersection and park in the Lied Center of Kansas lot.

Traffic may also be heavy around 11th and Louisiana streets and on 19th Street at Ousdahl Road and Ellis Drive.

Maps of move-in routes for each area can be found at the KU Student Housing website:

Daisy Hill (search 2400 Clinton Parkway);

Downs Hall (search 1836 Ousdahl);

• Stouffer Place (for freshmen on move-in day, search 1615 Ellis and approach from the east);

Scholarship halls and GSP and Corbin (start at 14th and Massachusetts streets);

• and apartments.

Find complete arrival schedules and much more information at this link.

“For those who work in KU’s West District, expect cars traveling north on Constant Avenue toward Irving Hill Road. West District employees should be able to park in their regular parking lots,” according to KU.
