LPD announces and conducts these specialized patrols regularly with the goal of reducing the risk of DUI crashes by encouraging people to designate sober drivers and getting impaired drivers off the roads, according to the release.

“It’s an effort to place extra officers in the field, specifically looking for motorists who exhibit signs of impaired driving and other traffic violations,” according to the release.

Officers will perform sobriety field testing for drivers who are stopped for traffic violations and show signs of drug or alcohol consumption.

The patrols are partially funded through a Kansas Department of Transportation grant, according to the release.
