Lawrence community members gathered at the Union Pacific tracks Thursday to watch Big Boy, the massive steam railroad locomotive, pass through town.

Big Boy was running a bit behind schedule en route from Kansas City to Salina for its next overnight stay, but it made it to Lawrence around 11:40 a.m. Thursday.

The 85-foot-long, 380-ton Iron Horse is nearing the end of an eight-week tour across nine states, running from Sept. 8 through Oct. 23.

See the tour’s complete schedule and find more details at this link.
