Couple and North Lawrence camp resident still shaken up after alleged assault involving hatchet
More than a week after an alleged aggravated assault incident near the North Lawrence camp for people experiencing homelessness, the people involved are still reeling emotionally.
A local couple told police a camp resident had approached them carrying a hatchet over his head and made them fear for their lives. The resident said he didn’t intend to hurt or scare anyone.
Diverging diamond interchange coming to 6th Street and K-10; work will continue through 2024
KDOT is beginning work on a project to create a diverging diamond interchange at Sixth Street (U.S. Highway 40) and Kansas Highway 10. Work is expected to be complete by the end of 2024.

Judge sets bond at $500K for Lawrence teen charged as adult in boy’s shooting death
A judge on Tuesday set the bail bond amount for a 17-year-old charged with shooting and killing a 14-year-old Lawrence boy at $500,000 cash or surety, and should he make bond, he will be on house arrest.
