As long-lasting construction work on East 23rd Street nears its end, Lawrence community members are invited to a gathering to celebrate.
Gov. Laura Kelly announced 16 projects that secured a chunk of $12 million allocated to this round of KDOT’s cost-share program, including $282,000 for pedestrian crossing improvements at U.S. 56 Highway.
The construction on East 23rd Street is still on track to be completed in December, and Harper Street north of 23rd is set to reopen Monday, according to the city.

City contractors will close lanes on one stretch of Wakarusa Drive this week to begin a project that’s expected to continue into winter 2024, and another lane closure on Wakarusa will continue.

The City of Lawrence will close parts of Ninth Street and parts of Inverness Drive for pavement rehabilitation beginning Monday. The projects are expected to be completed by mid-October.
City contractors will resume work on East 19th Street from Harper Street to O’Connell Road on Monday, according to a city update this week.
