Following a nearly 10-hour meeting Saturday, Douglas County commissioners voted to approve a permit for the Kansas Sky Energy Center, a massive solar farm to be built north of Lawrence.

Planning commissioners on Monday will consider whether to recommend approval of a permit for an approximately 604-acre commercial solar farm across three parcels of land north of Lawrence.
”We encourage the planning commission to recommend the utility-scale solar Kansas Sky Energy Project to the Douglas County Commission,” writes Carol Williamson, president of the League of Women Voters of Lawrence-Douglas County.
A renewable energy pessimist urged a special legislative committee to build support for changing Kansas law to tip the scale in favor of property owners opposed to development of wind and solar generation projects and electricity transmission lines.
