Food and fun were both on the menu Monday as free summer lunches for kids returned to the Lawrence Public Library and launched at the Lawrence Arts Center.
This summer, children ages 18 and younger will be able to eat a free lunch on weekdays in Lawrence, and families can pick up weekly meal kits to prepare and plan ahead.
The Lawrence City Commission on Tuesday deferred plans to join forces with a local soccer club to build artificial turf fields in town over concerns that the club wanted some exclusivity built into the agreement.
The Lawrence city manager gave city staff and commissioners an update Tuesday on the winter weather shelter program, which is anticipating demand of about 200 people and so far only has the capacity for 40. The commission also discussed a $1.5M soccer field project.
