Two men were taken into custody following a police pursuit Wednesday afternoon in Lawrence.

Lawrence police were called to a report of a possible domestic incident in the 1400 block of 15th Street just before 2 p.m. Wednesday, department spokesperson Patrick Compton told the Times.

As officers arrived, the man allegedly involved in the domestic incident was leaving in a vehicle. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the man did not stop and a pursuit ensued, Compton said. During the pursuit, officers realized there was a second man in the vehicle.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted in the chase — which ended on the south side of 31st Street between Haskell Avenue and Louisiana Street — when a DGSO officer used a tactical vehicle maneuver, Compton said. Both men attempted to flee on foot, Compton said, but they were both taken into custody.

The driver was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Compton said. No officers were injured.

Among other charges, Compton said the driver was in custody on suspicion of aggravated arson; however, Compton said the alleged arson was stemming from the domestic incident, so LPD would not release information about it.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical was still investigating at the scene of the domestic call as of roughly 4 p.m. Wednesday.
