A 60-year-old Lawrence woman was hit by a car at 19th Street and Naismith Drive Friday night and died from her injuries, according to Lawrence police.

The call came in to dispatch around 8:40 p.m. Friday. First responders at the scene found the woman, who had been attempting to cross the street at the intersection, unresponsive.

They started performing CPR, they said over the scanner, but about 10 minutes later, the woman had died.

Traffic was closing in the area of the intersection around 8:50 p.m.

Patrick Compton, a spokesperson for the Lawrence Police Department, said just before 10 p.m. Friday that West 19th Street was closed from Ousdahl Road to Naismith Drive “and will be for some time.”

In an update to media around 11:45 p.m. Friday, Compton said the road would remain closed as investigators continued to work the scene.

Police did not release the woman’s name Friday night.
