Lawrence woman, 2 children injured in crash in Osage County

A Lawrence woman and two children were injured Tuesday evening when the woman fell asleep and the Ford Edge she was driving went off the roadway, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report.

Linsey Moddelmog, 41, and Oliver Schmidt, 8, suffered suspected serious injuries in the crash, the report says. Harrison Schmidt, 11, suffered suspected minor injuries.

Moddelmog was heading northbound on Interstate 335. She said she believed she fell asleep around 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, and the vehicle went off the roadway into a ditch, vaulted and struck the embankment on the other side of a rock washout dish, according to the report. The crash occurred near milemarker 163.6 on I-335, which is about 10 miles southwest of the Topeka Regional Airport.

All three were wearing their seat belts, according to the report. They were taken to Stormont Vail hospital in Topeka.
