The second of two suspects, a 19-year-old Lawrence man, has been booked into the Douglas County jail on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting.

The victim, 21-year-old Christian Willis, of Wichita, was shot near 15th and Kentucky streets on Sept. 8. First responders initially requested an air ambulance, but Willis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lawrence police arrested the first suspect, an 18-year-old Lawrence man, about a week and a half after the shooting. He has been charged with first-degree murder.

The 19-year-old suspect was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Tennessee on Oct. 6, according to a news release from LPD. He was to be transported to Douglas County following an extradition hearing. The home address listed for him on the booking log appears to be the same location as the Sept. 8 shooting. He has not yet had a court appearance.

As of late Sunday, both men were being held on bonds of $1 million.

Wichita media outlets have reported that Willis’ 16-year-old sister was shot and killed just two weeks after his death in an unrelated incident.
