The Lawrence Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade, returning after a year off, drew a crowd to Massachusetts Street Saturday morning.
The parade had dozens of horse-drawn and riding group entries, including several new participants. The parade route was also extended for two extra blocks down the street for more viewing areas.
“Entries from all over the Midwest bring an array of horse and mule breeds, from gentle giants to miniature ponies,” parade organizers wrote ahead of the event.
“Riding groups in historic or seasonal attire and cowboy outriders add to the festivities. The goal of the parade is to entertain and educate spectators regarding the history of transportation and the contribution of the horse in the evolution of our culture. The horse-drawn vehicles must have wooden or metal wheels; rubber tires are not permitted.”
Here’s the video of the parade from Downtown Lawrence, plus photos from parade prep, the voyage downtown and the grand show on Massachusetts Street.
