Lawrence man killed in crash at Bob Billings and K-10

A Lawrence man was killed in a crash off Kansas Highway 10 Friday evening and a Mayetta man suffered serious injuries, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report.

Anthony M. Royal, 55, of Mayetta, was southbound on K-10 in a Dodge Ram, exiting to Bob Billings Parkway, according to the report.

John Thomas Kirby, 71, of Lawrence, was eastbound on Bob Billings in a BMW X3 Series. Royal failed to stop at the stop sign and struck Kirby’s vehicle, according to the report.

The crash was reported around 6:40 p.m. Friday. A few minutes later, the call was upgraded to bring more emergency personnel to the scene.

Royal, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Stormont Vail hospital in Topeka with suspected serious injuries, according to the report.

Kirby was wearing a seat belt and was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital but did not survive. Lawrence police notified his family, the report says.
