3 people injured, dog OK after crash; eastbound 23rd Street closed for investigation

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday on 23rd Street between O’Connell and Franklin roads, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

A dog in one of the vehicles was determined to be OK, according to a DGSO news release.

The three injured people were taken by ground ambulance to an area hospital, according to the release.

The crash occurred at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, according to the release. Deputies were still investigating the crash and its cause as of 7:15 p.m.

Deputies ask drivers to avoid the area for the next few hours as eastbound 23rd Street was to be closed, according to the release. Drivers should use alternate routes to access eastbound 23rd Street or Kansas Highway 10 east of Lawrence.

This map shows the approximate location of the crash. The sheriff’s office did not immediately release the names of the people injured.
