Someone fired gunshots into The Bullpen and the Baldwin City Public Library Friday evening, according to Baldwin City police.

Officers had not received any reports of injuries from either location as of shortly before 11 p.m. Friday, according to a news release from the department, and one person was taken into custody “without incident.”

Just before 7:15 p.m. Friday, officers received reports of a suspect firing a weapon from a vehicle in the 800 block of Eighth Street, according to the release. BCPD officers and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded and confirmed that shots were fired from outside The Bullpen, according to the release.

While officers were en route to that call, people outside the Baldwin City Public Library at 800 Seventh St. called in, reporting shots fired there as well.

“Officers received reports of the suspect’s vehicle description, and Baldwin City Police Officers located the vehicle,” according to the release.

BCPD will continue to work on collecting evidence, processing information and interviewing multiple witnesses, according to the release. Updated information will be posted to the BCPD Facebook page when possible.

BCPD asks that anyone who has information about this incident to please call dispatch at 785-843-0250, or Douglas County Crime Stoppers at 785-843-TIPS (8477) to make an anonymous report.
