Melissa Blevins, principal of Sunflower Elementary School, and Brandy Taylor, Liberty Memorial Central Middle School assistant principal, are resigning from their positions, the Lawrence school district announced Tuesday.

Blevins, finishing up her fourth year at Sunflower, has accepted a position with another school district, according to the district’s news release.

“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve as principal of Sunflower Elementary,” Blevins said in the release. “I am incredibly proud of the hard work and accomplishments made by Sunflower staff and scholars, especially during some very challenging times. They really know how to push through! I will miss this amazing school community and appreciate all of the support I received from staff and families. I have no doubt Sunflower will continue to accomplish great things in the future.”

Taylor, who will be finishing out her first year in this role, has also accepted a position with another district, according to the release.

She joined the district in 2020 as a social studies teacher at LMCMS.

“I’ve loved working with the staff and students at Central, they have all taught me so much,” Taylor said in the release. “I’m proud to be able to say, ‘once a Mustang, always a Mustang.’”

Their resignations go into effect June 30.

The district on Tuesday also announced the resignation of the Lawrence High School principal. Read more at this link.
