Congratulations to the 2023 graduates of Bishop Seabury Academy. 

For the last 26 years, this Lawrence independent school has continued to be true to its mission. It offers a college preparatory education for grades 6-12 in a diverse and enthusiastic learning community, promoting academic excellence and moral development while empowering students to explore their potential and to become engaged citizens of the world. Seabury’s graduates can be found all across the United States and around the world. As an alumni parent of two recent graduates said, “It has been inspiring to watch them grow over time into strong and capable young people who flourish in very different real-world and educational settings. Seabury prepares their students to succeed and thrive, both academically and in life, no matter what direction their hearts take them.” 

The 26 members of the Class of 2023 have been accepted to 115 colleges and were offered more than $7.4 million in four-year renewable scholarships and institutional grants. These high-achieving students have received acceptances that include Columbia University, Grinnell College, KU Honors, Macalester College, New York University, Rhodes College, Smith College, UC Berkeley, Washington University in St. Louis, and many others. 

Don Schawang, head of school, said of the Class of 2023, “This year’s senior class is a particularly strong group of students with a diverse range of talents: scholars, athletes, musicians, actors, writers, artists, dancers, and activists. I have had the pleasure of teaching them this year, and classroom discussion is robust, energetic, and rigorous. What a tremendous group of young people! We will miss them, but we are sending them off to make a powerful impact on the world.”
