The Outdoor Downtown Sculpture Exhibition is back in full force — and with a full exhibition for the first time since 2019, according to an announcement from the City of Lawrence.

The sculpture exhibition, which is in its 34th year, hosts 13 sculptures, primarily in downtown Lawrence. Most are located across the span of about six blocks down Massachusetts Street, though there’s also one at Theatre Lawrence, and others are scattered on New Hampshire and Vermont streets.

The sculptures, created mostly by local artists, vary widely in subject matter.

“This year’s juried selection of artwork ranges from organic to conceptual and everything in between,” according to the city.

The city will host an opening reception and tour starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 30 at the Lawrence Visitors Center, 812 Massachusetts St. The event is free to attend.

ODSE was founded in 1987 by Jim Patti, a local shoe repairman and founder of the Kansas Sculpture Association, according to his obituary

Those who can’t make it to the reception but still wish to participate in the tour can download the Otocast app from the App Store or Google Play to take a self-guided tour.
