The City of Lawrence will soon host a ribbon cutting for a new splash pad in North Lawrence.

The splash pad at Lyons Park, 700 Lyon St., will start operating after the ribbon cutting, which is set for 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8.

The splash pad will be operational after the ceremony until 8:30 p.m. and then daily from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. throughout the rest of the summer season, according to a Thursday news release from the city.

The city will determine at a later date when the splash pad will close for the season, depending on the weather, according to the release.

Lawrence city commissioners on Sept. 20, 2022 approved spending $600,000 on the splash pad project.

The city opened its first splash pad, on the Burroughs Creek Trail, in 2022. It reopened for the season earlier this summer. The South Park wading pool has closed for the season, but the Outdoor Aquatic Center at 727 Kentucky St. will be open through Sunday, Aug. 13.
