BLACK (Black Literature & Arts Collective of Kansas) Lawrence is collaborating with the Lawrence Arts Center to host monthly open mics on several upcoming first Fridays.

The hosts are hoping to allow emerging artists a platform to share their work and space to foster networking opportunities and promote their shows, publications and more.

“We welcome all mediums at our open mics including but not limited to poetry, music, dance, comedy, storytelling, & more,” organizers wrote in information about the event. “The open mic is also open for all backgrounds from dabbler to expert.”

There’s a signup form available online at bit.ly/blacklawrenceopenmic, which will help organizers better plan the evening and accommodate special requests, but there will be a signup sheet in person as well.

There will be one microphone and stand, a music stand, and cables for phones or backing tracks available, according to the signup form, which offers space to request alternative equipment if needed.

The BLACK Lawrence Open Mic events are slated for 7 to 9 p.m. on the first Fridays of October (Oct. 6), November, January, February, March, April and May. This month’s event will be held at 10th and Mass Studios, 1000 Massachusetts St., Suite D. The events are free to attend.
