Driver and passenger injured in crash west of Lawrence

A 19-year-old Lawrence man and an 18-year-old woman were taken to hospitals Wednesday evening after a crash west of Lawrence.

Around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, the man was driving a Toyota Tacoma northbound in the 1600 block of East 700 Road, according to a news release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. That’s about 2 miles west of the Sixth Street interchange on Kansas Highway 10.

The Tacoma was traveling at approximately 55 mph through the T intersection and struck the embankment, according to the release.

Medics took the man to LMH Health for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. The woman was taken to a Topeka-area hospital for serious injuries, according to the release.

DGSO did not provide the names of the two who were injured.
