A Lawrence music sale last month raised more than $8,000 for the Lawrence Public Library’s programs and more than $20,000 for Audio-Reader at the University of Kansas.

The Massive Music Sale, hosted on Jan. 19 and 20 in partnership between the library and Audio-Reader, raised $8,360 to support the library, according to a Facebook post. All CD and box set sales supported the library’s programs, while vinyl and equipment sales supported Audio-Reader’s mission to make information and art accessible.

“I’d like to give a shout out to Audio-Reader Network for being wonderful to partner with,” Angela Hyde, the library’s Friends & Foundation program coordinator, wrote in the post. “I’d also like to give Kelly (Corcoran) at Love Garden Sounds a shout out for all his advice and knowledge. Lastly, I’d like to give a shout out to all the volunteers who alphabetized 8,000 CDs!”

According to an Audio-Reader Facebook post, the more than $20,000 in sales are “crucial funds that allow us to continue providing free reading and information services for people who are blind or visually impaired across Kansas, Missouri, and nationwide.” The post also paid homage to volunteers who sorted through records and audio equipment ahead of the event and who assisted during it.

CDs were separated by genre and organized in alphabetical order for shoppers to browse through. Hundreds of vinyl and nearly 100 pieces of gently used audio equipment were available, as well. Many CDs and records were priced at as low as a few dollars.

People can browse more $2 and under CDs at the library’s monthly book sales, held on the second Saturday of every month. Books, audiobooks and DVDs will also be featured.

The next 2nd Saturday Book Sale is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at the library, 707 Vermont St. All proceeds will support the library.

Audio-Reader also holds separate audio sale fundraisers. Follow them on Facebook or Instagram for updates.
