After heavy winds and possible storms subside, Lawrence might see snow, and temperatures could drop to as low as 20° Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
A wind advisory is in effect for Douglas County and much of northeastern Kansas Sunday evening until 10 a.m. Monday, with gusts up to 50 mph possible, according to the National Weather Service in Topeka. The gusts could make driving difficult, especially in high-profile vehicles, according to the advisory.
“Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible this evening and tonight, mainly across central Kansas. Damaging wind and small hail will be the main threat with any severe storms,” according to the advisory.
Thunderstorms are possible for Lawrence after 11 p.m. Sunday, and there’s a 90% chance of precipitation, according to the forecast.
Monday is expected to be partly sunny with a high of 66°, though rain and thunderstorms are possible after 5 p.m. The area could then see snow late Monday into Tuesday morning. Minor accumulations of up to half an inch are possible, “mainly near and north of Interstate 70,” according to the NWS.
Tuesday’s forecast showed a 40% chance of snow before 8 a.m., and an overnight low of 22° Tuesday going into Wednesday, as of Sunday evening.
After that, temperatures are expected to rebound. Wednesday’s forecast shows a high of 52°, with an overnight low of 30° into Thursday.
Thursday’s forecast showed a high of 66°, followed by temperatures in the 70s during the days Friday and Saturday and overnight lows nearing 50°, all expected to be mostly sunny and clear.
