Pet killed in house fire in North Lawrence

A pet died in a house fire Thursday evening in North Lawrence, according to Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical.

LDCFM crews were dispatched to a fire just before 8 p.m. Thursday in the 800 block of Oak Street, according to their PulsePoint app.

The homeowner had evacuated the single-story house prior to LDCFM’s arrival, according to a Facebook post from the fire department.

“Several pets were located in the home, unfortunately one died. The fire was brought under control quickly,” according to the post.

Crews were working with the Red Cross to assist homeowner Thursday evening, according to the post.

Several units were still on the scene as of just before 10 p.m. Thursday, according to PulsePoint.
