Clinton Lake drowning victim was 23-year-old Topeka man

The man who drowned at Clinton Lake on Saturday was Cesar Cardenas Olivas, 23, of Topeka, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

“Deputies and first responders are searching for a 23-year-old man who was swimming in Clinton Lake and his friends witnessed him struggling in the water Saturday evening,” according to a news release from the sheriff’s office on Saturday.

“According to preliminary information, the man and his friends about 5 p.m. were in the area, which was recommended to be closed to swimmers due to flooding, before he went missing,” the release continued.

As of an update at 8:39 p.m. Saturday, the team had recovered the man’s body.

“The Sheriff’s Office offers condolences to the man’s family and friends,” the update stated.
