Reminder: Parking at Douglas County court is limited because of construction

Construction work that has begun at the downtown Judicial and Law Enforcement Center means parking will be limited in the nearby lot for a while to come.

“Potential jurors, attorneys, and anyone with court-related business at the building should plan for extra time to find parking,” according to a county news release.

The county broke ground at the JLEC, 111 E. 11th St., on Jan. 24 for the major renovation and expansion.

The JLEC project will create separate paths of travel for members of the public, staff members and people in custody of the Douglas County jail; locate the law library and clerk of the district court closer to the main entry; and provide for future expansion of the courts system.

But parking in the lot that the JLEC shares with the historic county courthouse will be limited by 40 to 60 spots, fluctuating over the course of the construction.

The work should be complete in summer of 2027, according to the contractors’ estimated timeline.

The county has posted the below PDF as well as an online parking map at this link to show where parking is available during the construction.

Douglas County commissioners in December approved a project budget of $82 million for that project as well as the construction of a new Public Safety Building out by the jail on the eastern edge of town. About $59.6 million of that estimate is for the JLEC.

The county is paying for the project with bonds that will be paid for within existing sales tax authority and cash on hand. The project won’t require a future tax increase.
