19th Street will be closed at multiple points throughout July and August for water main replacement and the Iowa Street improvement project. Closures are also planned along Ousdahl Road.
Here are the details, according to city news releases:
19th between Massachusetts and Kentucky:
19th Street will undergo two phases of closures as part of the City of Lawrence’s water main replacement project in the coming month.
First, 19th Street will be closed westbound between Massachusetts and Kentucky streets, and traffic coming off of adjacent roads to 19th will be blocked, starting Wednesday, July 9. The second phase of construction will shut down this entire strip of 19th Street.
According to a city newsletter, “This critical work helps prevent future service disruptions and reduces costly emergency waterline repairs.”
This work is expected to be completed by mid-August.
19th and Iowa:
The west side of the intersection of 19th and Iowa Streets is closed as part of the Iowa Street improvement project. Instead, drivers can head south to 21st Street, where they can turn westbound, according to the city.
This work is expected to be completed by mid-August.
Ousdahl at West 24th and 26th:
Beginning next week, West 24th Street will be closed from Ousdahl Road to Cedarwood Avenue going both directions.
Additionally, no motorists will be able to access 26th Street immediately west of Ousdahl due to closures.
Residents on West 26th Street east of Ousdahl will be detoured north onto Ousdahl, according to the city.
This work is expected to be completed the week of July 21.
