Two blocks of Maine Street will soon close for maintenance, as will westbound West 27th Street between Iowa Street and Lawrence Avenue. Additionally, some work on 19th Street will temporarily halt for Douglas County Fair festivities.
Here are the details, according to city news releases:
Maine Street between Sixth and Fourth streets:
Maine Street will be closed to through traffic from Sixth Street to Fourth Street starting Tuesday, July 29.
This closure is part of the city’s street maintenance program, and will entail “milling, patching, and overlay of the road,” according to a city newsletter.
This work is expected to be complete by Oct. 3.
West 27th Street between Iowa Street and Lawrence Avenue:
Westbound West 27th Street will be shut down from Iowa Street to Lawrence Avenue starting Wednesday, July 30.
The outside southbound lane on Iowa near 27th will also close daily, reopening around 5 p.m. each day.
City contractors are instituting closures to begin the first phase of West 27th Street maintenance.
This work is expected to be completed by Aug. 15.
Douglas County Fair traffic on 19th Street:
The half-mile stretch of 19th Street between Haskell Avenue and Harper Street was set to close Tuesday, July 15. However, 19th Street reopened Friday for Douglas County Fair traffic.
Maple Lane will be closed north and south of 19th Street, but drivers will be able to access 19th Street to get to and from the fairgrounds.
Workers will then close 19th Street again on Monday, Aug. 4.
The project was initially anticipated to continue through summer 2026, but it is running ahead of schedule, according to the city. More information about the project is available at lawrenceks.org/mso/maple-lane.
Other work along 19th Street continues; read more about that at this link.
