Nominations are open all month for the 2025 Phoenix Awards, designed to recognize outstanding achievements of Lawrence artists who serve the community.
The Phoenix Awards typically take place every two years. Winners are nominated by Lawrence community members and selected by the Cultural Arts Commission, a city advisory board.
The commission selected artist C. Bryan Young to create the physical awards this year, according to a city news release.
“This year’s awards are your chance to spotlight the people and projects that keep our community’s creative spirit shining bright,” the release says.
Up to five individuals or organizations will be awarded, and 10 categories are open:
• Arts Advocate
• Arts Administrator
• Arts Education
• Design
• Literary Arts
• Music
• Performing Arts
• Visual Arts
• Volunteer in the Arts
• Phoenix Award for Exceptional Artistic Achievement
Additionally, the “Creative Spaces” Award will recognize “outstanding, imaginative, and environmentally thoughtful placemaking,” according to the release.
Extended from the original date, the nomination deadline is 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.
Submit nominations on the city’s website, lawrenceks.gov/lprd/phoenix-awards.
