City of Lawrence announces new HR director

The City of Lawrence will bring a KU alum back to town as the next director of human resources.

Shakeva Christian brings more than 30 years of experience in the human resources field, according to a Friday news release from the city.

“I am very fond of the Lawrence community. It is where I developed my passion for the field of human resources and experienced both personal and professional growth,” she said in the release. “Serving the City that once served me is a full circle moment.”

Christian earned her bachelor’s degree from KU and her Master of Human Resources Management from the Keller Graduate School of Management, according to the release. She  most recently served as deputy director of HR for the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas. 

“Throughout her career, Christian has led complex labor negotiations across multiple bargaining units, overseen workplace investigations and compliance efforts, and partnered closely with organizational leadership to address workforce challenges and opportunities,” according to the release. 

Christian will start in the role on May 4. 

The former director of HR, Megan Dodge, resigned in November to pursue a consulting position.
