Work on Iowa Street continues, and a mile of westbound 27th Street will close for maintenance the week of July 20.
City of Lawrence contractors will begin asphalt overlay work on the closed outside northbound and southbound lanes of Iowa between Sixth Street and Harvard Road.
Plans call for crews to finish the outside lanes before reopening them and starting on the inside lanes. The city has said there will always be one northbound and one southbound lane open on Iowa throughout the work.
The city expects the Iowa Street project to wrap up the week of Sept. 4, pending weather or other delays.
Contractors are also closing the westbound lane of West 27th Street for the mile between Louisiana and Iowa streets as part of the city’s 2026 street maintenance program. Folks can still use the eastbound lane.
The closure will start Monday, July 20 and should end in late September, per the city’s traffic update.
